1983 XV500 Service Manual (U.S.)

So you don't have a manual for the virago XV 500? One of the posts said that there's not a lot of info on this bike. I don't have info but would like some help. Is this just for other types of Yamaha bikes for the most part?..

You read that correctly. There isn't much information on 1983 XV500's. Reason is: for the U.S. market there was only one model year for XV500's and that was 1983 that you have. XV400's weren't ever offered in the U.S. market. However, we do have European friends on this site with them.

The XV535 is the closest model to that of your XV500. So, download that repair manual that covers XV535's. This sight is for all Virago's including XV500's. Just think of your XV500 as if it were an XV535. The increase of 35cc can be considered the only difference. There may be some other differences, but I wouldn't consider them to be major differences.

It is suppose to. The download panel on the extreme left is to show you what Manuals are available and then link you to where they are stored.

Click the files in the above Post from "Gdad" Attachments block then you will be able to download them both.
Manual and wiring diagram.

There you will see how many times they have been downloaded.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I have the ORIGINAL manual with my bike but the diagram for the wiring was pretty roughed up. (Evidently had been gone though before, and lots of cigarettes smoked while fixing some wiring by the previous owner.) Extremely thankful I was able to come across this site, and look forward to getting my bike up and running again with the rest of the community on here! Cheers!
