Show us your ride!! [INTRO]

Post by Michelle » Wed May 29, 2019 6:47 am

This is my bike, a 1988 XV400 Virago that I bought about 6 months ago from a Lawyer. It had been badly treated, crashed a few times, had scrape-marks on both sides, and had been painted in Fiddly-Bits paint with no masking being used. She was originally Camilla Green, but I went with this Firethorn Red when I resprayed her.
As you can see she's looking a whole lot better. So say hello to "Tokyo Rose" :D
Only a few of these in Australia.
PS: Since this pic was taken, I've replaced those handlebars with more original looking ones as seen in the next pic.

Ok Chelle, you asked for it, so here we go. I will start posting them in the order listed under my signature to the right. I got hooked on rescuing old Yamaha Enduros and refurbishing them as much as I can, within my means.

This WAS my Virago that originally brought me to this site and allowed me to meet and ride with some wonderful folks like Joe, Dave, and.....umm, I forgot the other fellows name. The three of us met up for a nice Virago excursion several summers ago. Joe and I have connected on other occasions for nice rides since then. Joe's bike is the one on the right with stock exhaust. Rest assured, Joe's Vgo is the cleanest example of a Mid 90's Virago in existence.

1976 Yamaha DT175
Extremely fun to ride because it is pretty much a full size bike, but it is light weight and the 175 is quite powerful and responsive. It probably has the best power to weight ratio of all my bikes. I'm guessing with that statement, so don't quote me on it....

This bike's a monster. It's the one you're most likely to get hurt on. The DT series originally have all the street legal equipment. But when I rescue a bike that has more pieces missing or broken, well then I convert them to an off-road version which is really where my roots are.

I got this bike from the original owner. The bike lost spark and they couldn't figure out what caused it. I bought it cheap.....and I couldn't figure it out either. So I bought an extremely rough condition bike that fired right up and ran well. Started swapping parts and found it was a combination of a bad ignition coil and a bad ignition switch. The switch was actually working in reverse fashion. Off was on. On was off. My guess was that the original owner had disassembled the switch in his efforts to fix it, and somehow put it back together wrong. End result is a really nice DT250B with a very complete parts bike.

1975 DT175
I bought this cheap as a parts bike for my 76 DT175, but it actually runs well and has most of its pieces. I have since learned that there are a lot of unique items on the 76 model that are not interchangeable with the 75 that I bought for a parts bike. So guess what...... this one is On Deck for a future refurbishing project. It is photographed next to my DT250 parts bike. They are tucked in the corner of my barn waiting.....

1975 DT125
This is the bike that started my addiction on rescuing old Yamaha Enduros. I bought it from a farmer in Ohio who used it to get around on his farm. It was completely stripped down of all its street legal equipment. This is where I learned how difficult and costly it is to individually obtain the missing pieces. I haven't done it to that extreme since. If they are missing more of the street legal pieces then they actually have....then I make them an off-road version.

This is my little Sweet Heart. I ride it quite often, but simply around my yard with a big smile on my face. It was an Ugly Duckling when I brought it home. In my opinion, it turned out to be one of my best looking and running bikes in the bunch. It starts on the second kick. First kick lets it know you want to ride it. Second kick means it loves to be ridden.

This little gem was not rescued like the others. I paid more for this little guy than any other Enduro in my collection. The little ones are hard to find because they were simply ridden to death. They were typically handed down from one youngster to the next. And they were rarely maintained and repaired. This completely original, unrestored gem turned up on eBay and I guess I wanted it more than the others who were bidding on it. The previous owner was thrilled to see that is was being added to a collection of 75 Enduros. I haven't done anything but put gas in it and ride it.
