Far from a Virago

Post by Schu » Sun Feb 13, 2022 10:18 am

Ok, so I no longer own a Virago, but I still stop by now and then. Gotta make sure Joe is still giving guidance and support! My project at the moment is a 1971 Yamaha CT1C which is a midsize 175 Enduro. I got it from the original owner, and It is very complete. So all I am doing on this one is a complete tear down and thorough cleaning. I have a list of parts for my local Yamaha shop to order. Mainly oil seals, crank seals, and brake shoes. One thing I will say about my few years with a Virago. I never did anything more than change oil and replace worn tires. It was a wonderful ride, albeit a very unique machine.

Welcome back Bill,

Glad to hear you are looking over my shoulder and keeping me honest.

Maybe one day when it is a tad warmer we can get Dave, Ed, you and I together for a Brew and Burger like we did at Otter Lake a few years back.

Looking at your list of former bikes, I see you are a true Yamaha person! How is the 175 coming along?

The 175 is done and I’ve been enjoying it. The link below shows my first start up after completing my work. The other link shows the first ride in the yard. I had premix in the tank as well as the oil injection system, so it was getting plenty of lube as you can see by the blue smoke. Tomorrow I add yet another enduro to the herd. It’s a 1978 Yamaha DT175. I love the 175s and have one from 70, 71, 75, 76, and tomorrow will be adding a 78. And yes….I have a motorcycle problem.

Hey faffi, those are not my former bikes…….those are my current collection. I recently dragged most of them out of the barn for a group photo.

Me too. Guess we have just proved we have too much time at our disposal. Or that we do not have our priorities right
