Hello John, welcome to Virago Help.

Are one of these possibly the link you are addressing?:

Virago Air filter Conversion A.J.(BUG) Mei:
https://www.viragohelp.com/virago-owner ... onversion/

Virago Intake Manifesto Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine:
https://www.viragohelp.com/virago-intake-manifesto/

Only a dynamometer test would provide results if re-jetting is required. Some folks just care about the cosmetic look and don't care if performance is affected or not. As for me, not worth the trip to make these types of conversions. Call me lazy! If it ain't broke don't mess with it. but, that's me. Looks like A.J.(BUG) Mei had good results back when he did the conversion.

But, by all means feel free to make the change and let us know if you get the same results that (BUG) did. I've seen a lot of different air cleaner configurations on Virago's and other bikes and no one seemed to complain one way or the other of any ill affects regarding jetting.

Hi Joe. yes i seen both links but nether have info on jetting and needle setting . Am doing for a more performance than looks but i like the pancake air filter look too. the standard bug eye air filter looks to have poor air flow for a 1100cc engine. I have seen other mods for the mikuni BST- 40 carby on web site called THE BST-40 BIBLE that may be good info to other readers too. jetting and needle setting is what am after to suit air filter mod.

Didn't see a link to THE BST-40 BIBLE site on line. Possibly, you could provide that link.

Edited from my earlier post this morning:
I just re-read BUG's Conversion process. Sorry John, earlier this a.m. I just skimmed over it, and missed where BUG said that this was to be done only on bikes with aftermarket exhaust systems. That would require re-jetting and needle settings.

Virago Aftermarket Pipes. Depends on who's pipes are purchased, may require different jetting and needle settings from manufacturer to manufacturer:

It depends on what manufacture's pipes are installed on the bike. Then contact that manufacturer for the required jetting for those pipes. Back pressures are different from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I was thinking about doing this in the near future. Just to help get more air in cause it does seem like it's a little choked.
