New member, turn signal bulb replace. TIP. XV1100

Post by OldManJohnxv1100 » Mon Nov 27, 2017 1:22 pm

Hello,. Im John Montgomery Al. 58 yo .been riding Japanese, bikes on an off for 41 years.
Great Site here! Well Done!. Glad I found it. Jus got into A 97 Yamaha Virago xv1100 well maintained, garaged. 14,500 miles. Ive ran 250 miles so far.
My first v twin. Unique bike ,. First, second gear shes very quick,, really impressed me. I was a Kawasaki Ninga guy. Shes quick off the redlite. .. Love the short shift torque between 2,000-4000 rpm. Shes built to cruise. .Bit of vibration over 4-000, . . Love cruising in 5 gear 55-65 mph is the sweet spot.. She doesnt require downshifting with the suberb torque. .Goes 92mph at 5,000 rpm, with plenty left. My first shaft drive. Love that. . My right turn signal bulb burned out. After 45 minutes scratching my head an dissembling. I realized the last man had filed down the 2 soldered humps on his new bulb. So i realized my new bulb was similiar the 2 raised solder bumbs on my new bulb were to high. I sanded a bit an it went rite in.. maybe its jus my quirky thing bike.
Its diffucult with the rubber wrap yamaha installed for vibration reduction to get the bulb in regardless. . . Very good engineeringto insulate that bulb insert area. Jus thought id pass that tip along. Regards. John

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum and the tip about the bulb installation. I myself haven't run into that problem yet. But, you never know what might be around the corner. Here is a tip that may also interest you. And that is of the different bulbs available for Brake and Turn Signal applications. Note the differences of the low (running light side) vs the High (T/signal or Brake light side):

Bulb
Nbr.
1034 Low = 8.3w . . . High = 23.0w
1157 Low = 8.3w . . . High = 26.8w
2057 Low = 6.7w . . . High = 26.8w
2357 Low = 8.3w . . . High = 28.2w

Note: that the higher wattage draw also affects the bulbs longevity.
Higher the wattage the brighter the illumination. I've used the 2357's for a few years now and they are still going strong.
