question about engine swap

Post by taz420 » Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:36 am

Im new to rebuilding bikes and have a question about engine swap. I have an 82 yamaha maxim 650. I have a buddy who has an 84 yamaha virago 1000. Is it possible to put the 1000 engine into my maxim.

Anything is possible. But, here I would say, Nope.
Bike wiring is totally different. Two totally different Igniter assemblies. A pressure sensor on the 1000 that controls and tells the Igniter to retard the engine spark on deceleration. A 1000 is part of the over all frame make up. Don't think you want to cut your frame to get it in. There are way to many differences Regulator/Rectifier. We are talking about the differences between Day and Night here.

There are too many differences for it to work. If he wants to post that Virago 1000 engine as being for sale on our site he is welcome to.
