I am just getting to read your reply’s and I will go over the information, I have yet to put the carbs back in and give it a try after fully rebuilding and using compressed air. If it still will not start I was planning to try to start the bike under different conditions. I have read somewhere that the tachometers on this bike can go bad and prevent it from starting. I would need to go back and find where I read it so I could source that info and another thing I’ve heard is the kickstand relay can do the same. I was thinking to bypass the switch to test if that could be the issue. Do you have any suggestions of any other simple tests on various things that are small details that could not allow it to start?

Please explain in detail of what happened to light up the air filter and cause it to burn.

I added a shot of starter fluid to the air hose and tried to start the bike after reinstalling the carbs.

Always shoot the starting fluid into the Spark Plug Holes not into the intake hoses. Reinstall the Spark Plugs. If you get a slight backfire through the carbs like you did here. Your Air Cleaner Filter won't suffer the consequences of the backfire for there isn't any Starting Fluid vapor present to light off. Glad you didn't get hurt or the bike catching on fire. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy. Same when trying to find vacuum leaks and you are spraying starting fluid on them to see if the engine revs up. Always do it outside with a fire extinguisher near by.

Kind of like checking the wet cells in your battery with a match to see how much electrolyte is in a cell while it is charging. That too is a really bad idea. The vapor coming off a charging battery is also flammable!
