Dear Sirs,

I'm working on 2 Mikuni BST40 from a 1995 Virago XV1100 and couldn't disassemble the Needle Jet and the Main Jet. I would like to take apart at least the kit of #2 carburetor because someone changed the Main Jet to #127.5. Please, is there anyone that could help me?

What do you need help with? Unscrewing the main jet?

Just for clarification. Which carburetor are you referring to as number #2, Front or Rear carb.?. We don't want to confuse them with cylinder Numbers.

ViragoJoe,

both carburetors have the same construction. I mentioned #2 just because of the Jet. #1 has Jet 122,5 and that's why I will not disassemble. But this part is equal for both.

Unscrewing didn't solve the problem.

Virago Carburetors are jetted differently. One is #122.5 main jet the other is #125. Are you trying to determine which carb gets which jet?

I know what Jet goes in each carb. I just want
to replace a 127,5 Jet for the correct 125.
I unscrewed the Main Jet but it twists with the Needle Jet like twins. I tried to pull the set off but it didn't work. It seems that they are rusty. I grabbed the the Needle Jet side at the venturi and this didn't unscrew the MainJet of the Needle Jet. Also it's not clear how the kit Main/NeedleJet is assembled in the carb body. It seems that the plastic tube do that but it is sticked in the carb body. Well, from your words it seems that the only way to disassemble the kit is unscrewing the Main Jet. Right?

Are you running with standard exhaust or an after market exhaust system? That 127.5 Main jet may have been installed by direction of the after market exhaust supplier.

Yes, we are running standard exaust. I saw a video showing the Main Jets replacement. Just screwing out. My Jets dont screw out. I will run the 127,5 instead of 125. The other carb is ok with the 122,5. Question: is it necessary any action do compensate this difference?

If your jets don't unscrew how are you able to change them and why are you going with the 127.5 jet size over the OEM recommended size of 125?

sorry my late reply. I have no option. When unscrewing the Main Jet the Needle Jet also turns. Like grabbed with each other. Despite I have already reassemble the carbs but not reinstalled then in the engine I'm still studying if some compensation may be accetable. Like increase a little the Main Air Jet.

I had the same problem. When I unscrew the jet the needle turns with it. Here's how I solved it. I used a heat gun to warm up the plastic tube that holds the jet. Then I squeezed the tube about 1/4" below the jet with my pliers to hold the needle in place. It didn't work without warming up the plastic tube first. Good luck.
