Hi there fellow Bikers, just found this forum and am very happy I did, I am currently rebuilding a XV 920, I did a tank change and instead of having a vacuum petcock it has a gravity one, the question now is what to do with the vacuum line that ran to the original petcock? Do I block it off or leave it open? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!

Bart,

Block it off with a screw or something. Other wise you will have a vacuum leak that will cause the engine to run erratic and lean.

With the Gravity Petcock. Make sure you turn the fuel off after every ride. The gravity downward pressure of the fuel pressing against the carburetor float needle and seats can force fuel passed those shut off valves. Contaminating the oil with fuel and the lubrication properties of the oil lessened. You can Wipe out the crankshaft rod bearings and over fill the crankcase sump. Causing the fuel oil mix to blow seals and force that oil/fuel mix out of the crankcase vent (pipe) hose and spray it where you don't want it to be. Keep a close eye on your oil level sight glass. If that window fills totally and you can't see the surface of the oil, chances are you have fuel in the oil.
