Thanks again Joe.

I can’t find any info on the oil I bought. The oils listed in the thread above must all be U.S specific as none come up here in the Uk.
I have however found some Mobil super 1000 15w 40;
Link : https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engin ... -40-oil-5l

I’ve managed to find a data sheet on this and can’t find any mention of Molly in there;
Link : https://www.msds.exxonmobil.com/Downloa ... Format=PDF (Page 2 of 10)

It doesn’t say diesel specific but reckon I might be safer going for this knowing what’s in it? It could then be added to your list for any UK members :lol:

You were right when you said it can be like opening a can of worms :lol: :lol:

Your U.K. oil TRIPLE QX Mineral Diesel Engine Oil - 15W-40 - 5ltr states that it is for diesel engines. Diesel oils don't usually have Moly in them. Check the source where you purchased the oil or the MSDS for it.

Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) is the most commonly used anti-wear additive in motor oils. It contains both zinc and phosphorus components that work together to provide anti-wear protection and minimize lubricant breakdown. ZDDP also exhibits mild extreme-pressure protection.

The link to the MSDS sheet you provided https://www.msds.exxonmobil.com/Downloa ... Format=PDF (Page 2 of 10) for Mobil 1000 indicates that it has greater than 1% of ZDDP.

Thanks for deciphering that for me. I’ve tried and tried to get mds for the Triple QX however there isn’t anything about only threads on other forums of people trying to find similar.

I think I’ll return the oil I originally bought and go the Mobil 1000 15w 40 giving that has the ZDDP and no mention of Molly in there. Would you concur? :? :shock:

Since there was no MSDS sheet for your U.K. brand online. I would just go with the Mobil 1000 15w 40 for you know for sure that it has the needed ZDDP in it.

So that’s what I’ll do then. Filters are only due to arrive at the weekend so I’ll get it all sorted then.

Thanks again for your help Joe, I had no idea it was such a minefield. Hopefully the Mobil 1000 does the trick.

Note: When you pull off the oil filter cover. Make sure which way the filter is facing so you don't place the new one in backwards and observe screw locations. Screws look to be different lengths.

Since you are the new owner of this bike. I would also change the final drive oil. Who knows how long it has been in there or even changed. Just say'n.

Thanks for the tips Joe. I’ll make note of everything as I go. I had a peep into the FD, it’s full and looks clean but for the sake of it I’ll change that too.

Tom,
You may want to also think about this. This item gets neglected most of the time. The Final Drive (not the oil) but the grease points.

This is where you want to use a Moly based Grease.
