I recently did a road trip from Oakland to Markleville (both in California). Took Hwy 88 east and Hwy 4 west. 430 miles total, about 240 miles out of those were fun miles (not freeway), with lots of curves and elevation changes. The 8h in the middle were spent in a hammock by a creek...

I thought I'd share some pictures to inspire folks to go on longer rides. I was surprised (not!) how comfortable the ride was, especially with the suspension I put in.

One thing I was a little concerned about was the elevation change: I went from the sea level to 10000' and back, with the temperature at elevation around 75-80F. No issues with the bike though. I packed maybe 30-40lbs of stuff with me? I could barely tell that there is loss of power at elevation: on a flat straight at ~8500' I topped out at 104mph vs. 112mph at sea level. That indicates ~15% power loss, but it was hardly noticeable. The bike did run rich and the rear cylinder temperature was about 10-15F lower than what I measure at home. It had plenty of pull though and felt really good.

I also put about 10 miles in on bumpy, steep and somewhat rocky dirt roads to get to a quiet, secluded spot. Absolutely not a problem for this bike.

Go out and have some fun this summer!
