Also, for some images, it will correct orientation as it enlarges them:

I had leaking float valves on my xv500, this is how I repaired them
first pic is what I found when I removed the float bowls
the second pic shows the aluminium plugs what need to be pushed out.

From inside the float bowl firmly tap up the brass valve, it will push out the aluminium plug

the new seat has a detatchable gauze filter on top, remove this and refit the new seat, making sure it's down to it's shoulder then replace gauze filter, then tap in aluminium plug untill it is flush with the casting again,

Thats the new seat fitted!
Next is the new viton tipped needle valves, the tangs on the floats will need to be adjusted to suit as they are slightly shorter and the float level will need to be reset

pic shows old and new needle valves, the old needle valves cannot be used in the new seats, they will leak!

Unfortunately some of the pics are in the wrong order, I don't know why and it's taken an hour just to do this post and and I dont want to accidently delete everything and have to start again! As I look at the preview the bottom pic should be showing the aluminium plugs, I am not a mechanic and this is what I did to cure my leaking float valves, I take no responsibility for anyone stuffing up their carbs because they don't understand what I am saying, any questions, please ask before you start. All the new parts came in a XV535 carb rebuild kit from Ebay

Thanks for sharing.

I am a bit off that point on my rebuild but interesting to know when I get there.

Take care

Gdad,
I will apologise for the disjointed post, trying to put up the post was a bit of a challenge for me, if you need any clarification don't hesitate to ask, I will help as much as I can on any aspects though mine was in good condition and only needed some missing parts ie flashers, brake/clutch lever's, voltage regulator, battery, tyres, a little paint, full service and a lot of cleaning!!! Now looking (almost) new!! ( for a 40 year old) manufactured 1982, good luck
