Re: Show us your ride!!

1975 Yamaha DT400
This bike's a monster. It's the one you're most likely to get hurt on. The DT series originally have all the street legal equipment. But when I rescue a bike that has more pieces missing or broken, well then I convert them to an off-road version which is really where my roots are.

Re: Show us your ride!!

1976 Yamaha DT175
Extremely fun to ride because it is pretty much a full size bike, but it is light weight and the 175 is quite powerful and responsive. It probably has the best power to weight ratio of all my bikes. I'm guessing with that statement, so don't quote me on it....

Re: Show us your ride!!

Ok Chelle, you asked for it, so here we go. I will start posting them in the order listed under my signature to the right. I got hooked on rescuing old Yamaha Enduros and refurbishing them as much as I can, within my means. This WAS my Virago that originally brought me to this site and allowed me to...

Re: 1993 XV535 UK Backfiring.

TT, If your backfiring issue is really more like a gurgling or mild popping out the exhaust and everything else seems fine.......then ride on brother. I think most Vgo's have this condition and people spend more time trying to eliminate it than its worth. If everything is dialed in properly I am sur...

Re: Virago XV920 chain drive Vs. shaft drive parts compatibility

Learn something new everyday.
Never knew they had chain drive Vgo's.
I've had chan drives, shaft drive, and now belt drive.
Shaft drive was my favorite.
Belt drive isn't bad though.
Chain drives just don't last long enough.

Re: Virago XV920 chain drive Vs. shaft drive parts compatibility

You say your 920 has a chain drive? That's odd for a Vgo. Also, don't assume that it is your piston/cylinder that have seized. It may be locked up elsewhere. I bought a 1975 DT400 that the owner assumed had a seized top end. It turned out that some water had gotten into the left side case and puddle...

Re: Virago XV920 chain drive Vs. shaft drive parts compatibility

Whoa. That's going to be a challenge, swapping different engines and different drive trains. My thoughts would be to determine the extent of damage on your seized engine. It will most likely be the easier route. And most likely the cheaper route by the time it's all said and done. But that's just my...

Re: 2005 Virago 250 oil leak

You guys sure you're not dealing with a leaking counter shaft seal behind the sprocket?
Joe's powder trick should have steered you to it.
Stick with it Bilito, you have the right man on your side.
If it is the counter shaft seal, they are easy to change.
Good luck!

Yeah that was me at 13, back when any vacant lot was open to riding "trail bikes". Nobody worried about lawsuits. I think the count is at an even dozen.

Some people think there's a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I say there's a pack of bikes from the 70's!
