Re: 1991 XV535 New and introducing my Virago

Ditto Joe, But one has to be leg disadvantaged like me to ride that XV535. But yes, it has definitely lots of muscle for only being a 535cc. And it's a darn good cruiser for it's size. At 88 years old this will probably be my last bike, and they will probably have to pry my Cold dead fingers from th...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

Joe. I clamped off the hose going from the tank back to the sub tank, not knowing that both hoses fed the sub tank. Got gas all over the place before getting the hose back on the fitting. Decided that it wasn't worth the trouble and will just monitor mileage like I have been doing. Again, thanks for...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

I don't have a garage just a storage shed that I can store my Bike. but not enough room in there to work on it. So I have to have dry weather to work outside and so far Ma nature is not being cooperative . Might get to it this afternoon though.

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

Joe, Thanks for that info. And yes, that reserve switch is in a nasty position to get to. I can see it without having to use a mirror, but getting to it is going to be another thing. That one time that it ran out it was at 160 some miles, so I will just keep track of my mileage and not go over 100-1...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

okay, I will do that. And yes come to think of it, that tank wasn't really all that heavy. And BTW, thanks for the tip about the reserve switch over valve.

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

So,..............regardless of what the VIN states, I looked at the parts parts diagram for an XV535SF and it is exactly the same as my set-up. Which means that the Factory service manual will not do me any good. And due to the fact that my main Tank holds 3.6 gallons along with the sub tank of 2.7 ...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

Joe, Neither of those photo's are like mine. I checked my VIN and it is definitely an XV535S. your top photo is for one with the dummy tank, and your bottom photo is is for one with the valve in the tank. So yes, I can see where they used that tank even on the later models. I ordered a Factory servi...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

Joe, of course they labeled it as a 1994 model The Tag on the steering post says it was manufactured i Nov 1993. But the fact is that 1994 models had a tank with a petrol valve and did not have a 2.7 gallon tank down between the frame, and did not have a tank that had a curved out let that fed fuel ...

Re: 1994 XV535 Petrol Valve

I am referring to 2 tanks within my bike. The earlier 1980 models had a dummy tank that fed straight down into a tank between the frame, And did not have a petrol valve hooked to the tank. It has a switch on the cluster of the right Handlebar, for "ON & Reserve" That is what my 1994 Virago is set up...
