Re: 1989 XV1100 Super High Idle (Santa Rosa CA)

Hi all. I’m new here. Got myself a an 89 1100 a while back. It wasn’t starting. I took the carbs out and rebuilt them. I even had to replace a float and set it. I put them in afterwards and it started right up. I was so excited. Then the rpm’s just kept climbing and climbing from 4000-6000 and high...

Re: 1995 XV750: Turn signal relay buzzing and not flashing (with LED'S), even when loaded (Houston, TX)

To clarify, I was using two incandescent tail lights to test the relay. But they are pretty small, so I don't know if it's enough or not. I was using two incandescent tail lights to test the relay. Tail light is on the rear fender and has nothing to do with the Rear Turn Signals. What were in the f...

Re: 1995 XV750: Turn signal relay buzzing and not flashing (with LED'S), even when loaded (Houston, TX)

As the title says, I'm having trouble with the turn signal relay. When I try to signal, it just audibly buzzes and the (newly LED) signal indicator in the dash flickers very rapidly, about 30hz or so, in sync with the buzzing. I've tried hooking up both of the incandescent brake lights provided by ...

PocketSized, In response to your PM to me. 1981 XV750 through 1987 Carburetors were Hitachi. 1988 the Carburetors went to Mikuni Carburetor with a More robust design. Carburetor cables went from single cable to dual cables. I'm pretty sure 1st generation 1981/82/83 XV750s used Hitachi Carbs with tot...

Re: 2000 Yamaha Virago XV250MC Project Help (Texas, USA)

Hello, I recently acquired a Virago. Turns out its a California model. Well I live here in Texas and the person I bought it from basically took the carb off, fuel pump, pet cock and pretty much everything else that has tubing attached to it. They left the tubing on the bike and Mud dobbers or some ...

Re: 1992 XV1100 Backfiring Front Cylinder (New Jersey)

I'm getting a bit of backfire from the front cylinder. (backfiring when starting, and on decel). Any ideas what may cause this? Thanks! Jerry Jerry, Usually, backfiring for me is more on the lines of Valve Adjustments and Synchronizing the carburetors. Along with new Spark Plugs. If I get a backfir...

Re: 1997 Virago 250 key stuck in gas tank (Charlotte, NC)

The ignition is sticky and I got it to work by blowing it with an air compressor and adding graphite. Unfortunately, the same technique didn't work with the gas tank and now the key is stuck. It turns and opens the tank, just won't come out. I've sprayed it with more graphite and I'm letting it sit...

Re: 1997 Virago 250 - Compatible Ignitions / Fuel Cap Assy (Charlotte, NC)

I think I'll need a new ignition and gas tank cover cap assy with new keys. Any recommendations? I see OEM parts that are over $150. Is that what I should expect? Any cheaper options? jskipburns, Any cheaper options? Take some deep dives into the internet and see what alternatives you find. O.E.M. ...

Re: 1997 XV1100 Positive battery terminal lead fix and question (Tampa Bay FL)

I need to repair the positive terminal lead on my battery cable and also soon figured out the whole positive cable was some previous owner crappy attempt at "something." There's a twist on wire connector, bad heat shrink, fraying insulation. Instead of just fixing the terminal end I'd like to repla...
