Will a mid 80s head gasket fit an 81? Wouldn't mind replacing the fire ring / o-ring set up for an actual head gasket.
I haven't heard of anyone doing this, but I wouldn't rule it out. You would need to get a gasket and try it out. Even a used one for test purposes.

Well sir, you have your wife all squared away with the modifications on her two highly polished Virago's. Also, you haven't skimped on keeping your motorcycle highly polished as well!! I'll bet it is a real head turner. Your robust engineering design suspension system must smooth out every bump and ...

Re: 1982 XV920J Junkyard Rescue

My first bike was a 180 Street Scrambler that my dad gave me way back when Neil Armstrong was moonwalking. Since then I've had Enduros and street bikes like the Magna and Shadow. A few years ago I bought an '82 XV920 from a scrapper for $50. This is a "J" model and has that really cool BucK Rogers ...

Re: 1981 XV750 Head leaking oil

I've just finished building my 1981 XV750. Got the bike running and there's an oil leak between the heads and the cylinders. I used an aftermarket gasket set. The head gaskets had crushed but obviously the timing chain o-rings weren't. Hence the oil leak. What am I missing here? I've looked all ove...

Re: 1986 XV1100 keeps fouling plugs won't idle

We use 95 octane fuel almost universally, the only time I move to 98 is when in France or Spain they only sell E-10 fuel. As to the science, I can only say this, 3 months of replacing and or checking everything at our local Honda dealer, had the mechanic tearing his hair out, finally giving up and ...

Re: Archive info Spark Plugs

Quote from the archive copied and pasted The lower the number, the cooler the heat range of the spark plug. What or who's archive exactly? I find this most interesting. Since, all Heat range tables I've seen indicate the lower the number the hotter the spark plug for NGK Spark Plugs. Unless, there ...

Re: Buying a 1993 1100

Hi, I've owned an '81 750 and an '82 920, and I am going to look at a 1993 1100 with 18k tonight. Are there any issues with the 1100 or things I should look for on this bike? Thanks for your help! Chris Chris, XV1100's are notorious for having fuel in the oil sump for there is no fuel shut off valv...

Re: 1985 XV1000 Turn signal, horn, hazards not working please help!

That makes sense. Do you know which relays I need to look at? I'll post a pic of one I thought might be the cause. Hoping someone knows which relays I may need to change! Your pictured relay is one of two four wired relays. According to the Wiring Schematic for the XV700 and the XV1000 [Same schema...

Noticed your 1996 XV750 has Spoke Wheels.

In the U.S. they didn't come with Spoke Wheels. However, XV700 spoke Wheels do fit.
