Re: 1995 XV750: Turn signal relay buzzing and not flashing (with LED'S), even when loaded (Houston, TX)

See, I have LEDs in the front turn signals, which are pretty high power for LEDs. When the brighter element is on (for turn signal) it draws 3W, as opposed to ~25W of the old bulb. That said, I kept the original bulbs in the rear turn signals, which draw 27W on the blinker setting. Given the circuit...

Re: 1997 Virago 250 key stuck in gas tank (Charlotte, NC)

I had a similar issue with a regular key in a door lock. I didn't use any lubricant, just patiently jiggled the key and finally got it out by pushing the key in and immediately pulling it. Almost as if you wanted to throw a phantom punch and bring that hand back to guard your face... (for a lack of ...

Re: Viragos in Honolulu

By the way, I found this site: https://www.riders-share.com/ The only thing I could find in Honolulu that would fit the bill (has a comfy backrest) is a huge Harley. They don't allow to list bikes made before the year 2000, so the larger Viragos are out of question. If that's what it comes down to, ...

Viragos in Honolulu

A bit of an odd-ball question: are there any guys on the forum here, that live around Honolulu? It looks like I'll be going to Hawaii in May (poor me: for work) and I may take my wife with me. It would be absolutely awesome if I could borrow someone's bike, preferably a Virago with a sissy bar, to t...

Re: 1996 XV1100 Engine Tapping Sound (Finland)

I can hear the sound in the video, but I don't have enough experience to be able to tell what it is. Could be the valves, given the frequency of the tapping. I hear it more in the right speaker than in the left, not sure if that helps. Let's keep in mind that it's winter time in Finland. To add to y...

Re: Hallo from South Africa

It's table1 of the Clymer's service manual. It connects the engine number to the year and model number. From there, I'm not sure how to get the place of origin, unless it's a California model, or the extra letters in the model number somehow point at a unique market where it came from.

Re: Hallo from South Africa

I think either the owners manual, or a service manual has a table that lists which VIN numbers (it gives a range) correspond to which year and model#.

Re: 1992 XV1100 Charging System Issue (Santa Ana, CA) [Update]

Good find! Not an obvious thing, but yes, dirty/corroded contacts can really add a serious voltage drop in the system. A good, crimped or bolted contact should be on the order of 1mOhm (0.001 Ohm), and in such a case, when passing 10A, it would only lose 0.01V. But if that contact is corroded or loo...

Re: 81 Virago 750- Shorten Forks? (Southeast CT)

Agreed. One change at a time is a good plan. The clip-ons will only change the handling due to change in the seating position. That's very easy to adjust to as a rider. The change in the bike's rake and trail due to change in ride height, that's also something you can adjust to, but too large of a c...

Re: 81 Virago 750- Shorten Forks? (Southeast CT)

ah: another thing I forgot to mention is ground clearance. Once you lower the bike 1", you may be surprised how much of the metal will try to get in contact with the pavement in turns. I raised my bike by over 1" via stiffer springs and shocks, and only now I can get the chicken strips off of my tir...
